Q: I have a preferred car club membership with National rent-a-car company. However, I must rent from the least costly car company and sometimes that isn't National. Can I earn points or other benefits with another car company?
A: Yes, however, you will need to sign up with each individual car company. All major car companies have a car club membership program. Most of the membership programs are free to government employees.

Q: I have never heard of some of the car rental companies that are being booked for me. Is there a government web site that advises which car companies are SDDC approved?
A: Yes, there is a government web site for domestic approved rental car companies and a separate government web site for international approved rental car companies. The web site for the SDDC approved domestic rentals is: http://www.sddc.army.mil/sddc/Content/Pub/657//domestic.pdf and the site for the SDDC approved international rentals is: http://www.sddc.army.mil/sddc/Content/Pub/658//international1.pdf

Q: Can a fuel service charge be added to a CPP award?
A: Yes. A fuel service charge as of F/Y 08 can be added to any CPP award. Additionally, a fuel service charge can be added without advance notice to any fare prior to ticketing. It can be added to any reissued ticket as well.

GSA statement from Airline City Pair Program, Fact Sheets, Fuel Surcharge

Fuel Surcharge Fact Sheet
In fiscal year 2008, due to the continued volatility in fuel costs, the City Pair Program is allowing airlines to assess a fuel surcharge to domestic or international contract fares under the following conditions:

  • The new fuel surcharge has been implemented commercially in a market during the period after the submission of offers, March 28, 2007, through the contract period ending September 30, 2008. The fuel surcharge may only be assessed on fares corresponding to the contract fares after the surcharge has been in place commercially for a minimum of 14 consecutive days.
  • The fuel surcharge may not be higher than that imposed commercially
  • The fuel surcharge will be assessed at the time of ticket issuance.
  • The fuel surcharge will be removed from the contract fares when it is no longer imposed commercially on the applicable fares in a market.
Q: How much will a fuel service charge cost me?
A: The fuel service charge can be as little as $10.00 one way and does not have a cap on the cost. A fuel service charge can be hundreds of dollars over the cost of the fare in the international city pair market.

Q: Can a fuel service charge be added to a "me too" fare or a "catz" fare?
A: Yes. A fuel service charge can be added to any fare at any time without advance notice.
